MANILA, Philippines — Nagpatupad ng rigodon ang Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) sa mahigit isang batalyong security escorts sa ilalim Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group (VPSPG) ni Vice President Sara Duterte
Kasabay nito, nilinaw naman ni AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., na taliwas sa kumakalat sa social media ay hindi nilansag ng AFP ang VPSPG manapa’y nagpatupad lamang sila ng reorganisasyon.
Ipinaliwanag ni Brawner na ito ay bahagi ng streamlining na inimplementa noong Pebrero 2025 at inaprubahan ng Department of National Defense (DND).
“This administrative adjustment was undertaken to unify security and protection operations. It ensures the continued, uninterrupted and robust protection of the Vice President within a more integrated and optimized framework”, anang opisyal.
Ang VPSPG ay itinatag noong Hunyo 2022 kung saan nasa 433 ang sundalong nakatalaga para mangalaga sa seguridad ni VP Sara at 75 naman ang mga pulis.
Gayunman noong Nobyembre 2024 ay tinanggal ang 75 police officer na nakatalaga kay VP Sara matapos itong magbanta ng assassination laban kina Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos at House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.
Dati’y ang mga Vice Presidents ay ineeskortan ng Security and Protection Battalion sa ilalim ng AFP General Headquarters and Headquarters Support Command na walang naka-dedicate na military security group.
Pero ayon sa Chief of Staff, mas mahalaga ang kasalukuyang set-up na mas episyente at epektibo upang tiyakin ang kaligtasan at seguridad ng kasalukuyan at mga bise presidente sa hinaharap.
