MANILA, Philippines — Pormal nang nagbitiw si Rep. Martin Romualdez bilang House Speaker ngayong Miyerkules, September 17, sa gitna ng plenary session ng Kamara.
Sa kanyang talumpati, sinabi ni Romualdez na tumitindi ang bigat ng kontrobersya sa mga flood control projects at budget insertions, kaya pinili niyang bumaba upang mapanatili ang integridad ng Kamara at bigyang-daan ang independiyenteng imbestigasyon.
“Leadership also demands that we confront the trials of the present… The longer I stay, the heavier that burden grows — on me, on this House, and on the President I have always sought to support,” ani Romualdez.
Ayon sa kanya, ang desisyon ay hindi tanda ng panghihina, kundi sakripisyo para sa ikatatagumpay ng institusyon at sa kapakanan ng taumbayan.
