MANILA, Philippines — Umapela si Senior Citizens Partylist Rep. Rodolfo “Ompong “ Ordañes kay Senate President Chiz Escudero na ihabol sa plenaryo ang universal pension bill habang may panahon pa bago magtapos ang 19th Congress.
Ayon kay Ordañes, balik sesyon na ang Kongreso sa Hunyo 3 at magsi-sine die adjournment naman sa Hunyo 13 habang magbubukas ang 20th Congress matapos ang State of the Nation Address ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. sa darating na Hulyo.
“We thank outgoing Congressman Joey Salceda for his strong and timely appeal to the Senate top prioritize the universal social pension for senior citizens. The universal social pension bill the House sent to the Senate is fiscally responsible. It is not ayuda for ayuda’s sake — there is wisdom in the phased-in approach we used in crafting the bill,” saad ni Ordañes.
Layon ng House Bill (HB) 10423 na mabigyan ng universal social pension ang mga senior citizens sa pamamagitan ng pag-aamyenda sa Republic Act (RA) 7432 na inaprubahan ng Kamara noong Mayo 21, 2024 at ipinadala na sa Senado kinabukasan kung saan nakabimbin ito sa loob ng mahigit 1 taon.
