BUONG tapang at may pagpapakumbabang tinanggap ni PNP chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III ang bago niyang puwesto at nangakong sa ilalim ng kanyang liderato pagsisilbihan niya ang mga Pinoy “with honor, excellence and integrity.” “Today I stand before you as a public servant humbled by the enormity of the task and inspired by the mission all of us share, to serve and protect the Filipino people with integrity, courage and compassion,” ani Torre, ang 31st PNP chief.
Ayon kay Torre gigiyahan niya ang PNP sa tamang daan at “grounded in unity and guided by our principles of the rule of law.” Eh di wow! Pinasalamatan ni Torre si outgoing PNP chief ret. Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil sa kanyang mahabang serbisyo sa PNP at maging ang iniwan nitong legacy. “We recognize that every step we take from today is built on the foundations that you have laid and to the Filipino people, the very reason of our existence we the PNP shall work harder to earn and ensure that our communities are safe, your rights are respected and your trust is earned,” ang sabi ni Torre kay Marbil. Pinasalamatan din ni Torre si President Bongbong Marcos Jr. sa responsibilidad na iniatang sa kanyang balikat. “This is a position of trust and as a duly elected representative of the Filipino people, you have my full commitment, and I will abide solely by your directive in faithful service to our nation and the strengthening of the PNP,” aniya.
Ayon kay Torre, may 3 core pillars na ipapatupad ang kanyang liderato sa PNP. Ang una ay ang swift at responsive public service kung saan ang 3-minute response, na inumpisahan niya sa QCPD, ay gaganap ng malaking role. Aniya, ang lahat ng paghingi ng tulong ay kinakailangan ng agarang atensiyon at aksiyon. “We will be present makikita niyo kami sa kalsada, sa komunidad, sa palengke at sa bawat lugar na kinakailangan ng ating presensya para magbigay ng kapanatagan ng kalooban. Kung nasaan man ang bawat Pilipino sila ay ligtas,” ang pangako pa ni Torre. Saan ka pa? Hehehe! Kelangan pa bang i-memorize ‘yan?
Upang suportahan ang unang core pillar, nanawagan si Torre sa 232,000 rank-and-file ng unity at morale sa kanilang hanay. Aniya, ang pagkawatak-watak ng kanilang hanay ay hindi magdudulot ng magandang depensa sa Pinas. “We will strengthen our core from within guided by discipline, mutual respect, and leadership by example,” ayon pa kay Torre. Nanawagan si Torre sa buong kapulisan na ibigay nila ang kanilang “the best” upang protektahan ang sambayanang Pilipino, hindi lang laban sa kriminaldad kundi maging sa iba pang threat groups. “With this expectation we will also give you the best training, best leadership, best support and the best opportunity to grow in this institution because those who are asked to give all also deserve nothing less in return,” dagdag pa ni Torre. Ang pangatlong pillar ay ang pag-modernize ng systems ng PNP, enhance ng investigative tools at pag-adopt ng innovative technologies kung saan pinuprotektahan ang karapatan ng mamamayan. Teka, teka, ang unang proyekto ni Torre ay ang pagpapauwi kay dating spokesman Harry Roque. Abangan!
