MANILA, Philippines — Ngayon pa lamang ay sinimulan na ni Chef De Mission Ricky Vargas ang paglalatag ng ‘groundwork’ para sa paglahok ng Pilipinas sa Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
Ito ay para matiyak ang kahandaan ng mga Filipino athletes sa hangaring makapag-uwi ng mga medalya.
“Other countries have started to check out the same things so we’re actually not early,” ani Vargas na nakasama sina Cignal First Vice President and Head of Channels and Content Sienna Olaso at Cignal Vice President for Sports Business Development Miguel Vea sa isang three-day visit sa Los Angeles.
Tumingin ang grupo ng mga potential training facilities, hospitality venues at accommodations para sa Philippine delegation.
“We’ve done the first round. In February, we’ll do another round and hope to finalize details. One of our goals is to confirm a training site which we hope will be better and more equipped than in Metz, where we set up camp before the Paris Olympics,” ani Vargas.
Ang mga campus ng Pepperdine University, Loyola Marymount University at UCLA ay mga tinitingnang training camps dahil sa kanilang world-class facilities para sa mga national athletes.
Plano ni Vargas na magdala ng 20 hanggang 25 athletes kasama ang kanilang mga coaches at trainers sa training camp sa Los Angeles isang buwan bago ang LA Olympics.
Bukod sa mga training sites, nag-inspeksyon din si Vargas sa mga potential hospitality at event centers para sa Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) na tatanggap ng mga guests at supporters.
Kabilang sa mga ito ang The Petersen Automotive Museum at ang Film Academy Museum, habang 20 hotel rooms ang ilalaan para sa mga key officials at staff.
Nagtungo rin ang grupo kay Philippine Consul General Adelio Cruz sa Los Angeles para sa isang courtesy call at nakausap ang Consulate’s Management Committee para makakuha ng suporta mula sa Filipino community sa Southern California.
Nakatakda ang 34th Summer Olympic Games sa LA sa Hulyo 14 hanggang 30, 2028.
