MANILA, Philippines — Umakyat ang puwesto ng Alas Pilipinas girls’ Under-16 team sa World No. 25 sa pinakabagong FIVB Girls’ U17 rankings matapos makapasok sa world championship sa Santiago, Chile.
Nagmula ang mga Pinay spikers sa pagiging World No. 42 mula sa kanilang fifth-place finish sa 2nd Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Asian Women’s U16 Volleyball Championship sa Amman, Jordan noong nakaraang linggo.
Nagsimula ang tropa sa pagiging World No. 57.
“Awesome leap from 57 to 25! We didn’t realize that our small wins in the Asian Qualifying were that instrumental in raising our country’s standing to a higher rank,” sabi ni Alas U16 coach Edwin Leyva. “It just shows that the level of play here in the Philippines has improved and is slowly catching up with our top Asian counterparts.”
Ikinatuwa ni Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) president Ramon “Tats” Suzara ang nakamit ng under-16 team na resulta ng kanilang grassroots program sa nakalipas na apat na taon.
“We are now reaping the fruits of the grassroots program that the PNVF has started four years ago,” ani Suzara. Itinatag ang PNVF sa post-pandemic noong 2021 at unti-unting pinalakas ang Alas Pilipinas Men at Women sa world at Asian levels.
Ang pinakabatang national team ngayon ang highest-ranked Philippine volleyball squad kasunod ang Alas Women (No. 46) at Alas Men (No. 80).
“Being in the top 25 is already a milestone. Why stop dreaming? Let’s train hard, play harder!” wika ni Leyva. “We have the momentum and we are highly motivated. First, win a set or two, then work up from there. It’s up to us to keep the fire burning.”
Nakakuha ang Philippine U16 team ng 14 ranking points mula sa 25-23, 25-20, 19-25, 25-22 panalo sa Thailand para makuha ang huling Asian ticket sa 2026 FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U17 World Championship.
Nakatakda ang world championship sa Santiago, Chile sa Agosto 5 hanggang 16.
