Ibinida ni Lea Salonga ang pagiging proud sa anak na transgender sa kanyang interview sa People.
Sa nasabing panayam, ipinagmamalaki ng Broadway legend ang kanyang anak na si Nic, 18 taong gulang, na kamakailan ay nagsimula nang mag-take ng testosterone pagkatapos lumabas bilang transmasculine sa edad na 14.
Nauna nang ipinost ni Lea ang nasabing interview nilang mag-ina. “Thank you @people for sharing our story! The new issue of PEOPLE is on newsstands nationwide Friday,” kalakip ang cover story nila.
Nakasaad umano sa nasabing article na lumabas sa out.com : “According to Nic, both his parents have been “very accepting,” and that his mom “just didn’t want [his] life to be as hard as it would be.” Even though he admits “it was rough,” he says “this was the most ideal situation for me,” per People.
“As studies have shown, “parental support is associated with higher quality of life and is protective against depression in transgender adolescents.”
Hindi pabor ang kasalukuyang administrasyon sa Amerika sa mga trans youth kung saan nabanggit sa nasabing article na kabilang ang isang executive order na nagbabawal sa mga paaralan na tumanggap ng “federal funding from allowing students to use the name and pronouns that best match their gender identity, bans them from using the locker rooms and bathrooms that best fit their gender identity, and bans them from playing on the most appropriate sports team, and an executive order that defines sex as strictly male or female based on the “immutable biological reality of sex” characteristics at birth.”

“Hindi ko po makakalimutan ang araw na ito, Kuya, dahil ito po ‘yung araw na nagpakatotoo ako at naging malaya po ako,” sabi niya matapos aminin na miyembro siya LGBTQ+ community sa isang task na pinamunuan ni Michelle.
“Bukod sa na kinilig ako para sa kanya, I feel so proud, Kuya, na I’m able to stand as in inspiration and a source of strength to disclose something as big as that,” pahayag naman ni Michelle na nauna nang naglantad ng totoo niyang kasarian.
