MANILA, Philippines — Paparada ang Team Philippines sa opening ceremony ng 2025 World Games dito sa Tianfu International Convention Centre.
Sina wushu star Agatha Wong at cable wakeboard sensation Raph Trinidad ang tatayong flag-bearers at sasamahan ni Chef de Mission Stephen Arapoc at ng iba pang Filipino athletes sa makulay na pagbubukas ng World Games.
“I am excited because it is my first time in an opening ceremony. I just want myself to enjoy and live throughout the experience,” sabi ni Wong.
Sasama ang mga Philippine representatives, suportado ng Philippine Olympic Committee sa pamumuno ni president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino, sa isang unique torch-lighting ceremony kung saan ipapasa ng mga local Chinese bets ang torch sa pamamagitan ng isang motorboat kasabay ang isang three-part fireworks display.
Manonood din si Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Patrick Gregorio kasama ang mga prominenteng Chinese officials at World Games executives na pinamumunuan ni president Jose Perurena Lopez.
Samantala, kaagad lalabanan ng men’s floorball team ang Latvia sa Xindu Xiangcheng Sports Centre.
Ang 14-man squad, ang World No. 12 ranked, ang unang dumating dito sa Chengdu noong Linggo at kaagad nag-ensayo noong Martes ng gabi.
“We feel great and confident. The team is ready,” wika ni Philippine Floorball Association president Marco Ortiz.
