PSC magtatayo ng national training center

MANILA, Philippines — Itutulak ni Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Patrick “Pato” Gregorio ang pagtatayo ng mga National Training Centers sa buong bansa para palakasin ang grassroots program.

Ayon kay Gregorio, hindi dapat sa Metro Manila lamang nagsasanay ang mga national athletes.

“Bakit kayo nasa Rizal Memorial at sa PhilSports lang ang training? Dapat nasa regional na kayo,” wika ng PSC chief mula na rin sa payo sa kanya ni President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. sa kanilang pag-uusap kamakailan sa Malacañang.

“This is what President Marcos wants — that we fast-track the establishment of National Training Centers in the regions. Many facilities already exist and only need to be deve­loped. For areas without proper venues, we’ve already identified local talents and will build training hubs around them,” dagdag nito.

Sinimulan na ni Gregorio, may malawak na karanasan sa pamamahala sa basketball, boxing at ro­wing, ang pakikipagpulong sa mga National Sports Associations (NSAs) para matiyak na angkop ang itatayong mga training centers base sa kanilang konsepto at talent identification.

Kabilang sa mga target na tayuan ng training centers ay ang Ilocos Norte, Baguio, Bataan, Tarlac, Tayabas (Quezon), Batangas, Cavite, Cebu, Bacolod, I­loilo, Zamboanga at Siargao.

“Siargao excels in sur­fing and water sports — that’s where we should bring them. Many of our boxers come from the Visayas, while Iloilo is strong in football. The consensus among local and sports officials is ‘Adopt a sport.’ If we work together, we won’t go wrong,” ani Gregorio.
